Print, engraving, The Battle at La Hogue (after Benjamin West) by William Woolett (Maidstone 1735 – London 1785). One of a set of two engravings, the engraving by William Woollett, 1781, after a painting by Benjamin West (1728-1820). The English naval victory at La Hogue in 1692, when the French invasion fleet was destroyed, would have been patriotically remembered during the later wars with France such as that of 1778-83.
