King William III's victory over the forces of James II and Louis XIV in Ireland at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690 was a popular subject for a history painting in the 18th century. General Frederick Herman de Schomberg, 1st Duke of Schomberg (1615-1690) mortally wounded, being carried off by soldiers. Original gilded wooden frame.
