Summary
A white-painted steel side chair, one of a set of four, American, designed by Harry Bertoia (1915-1978), circa 1952, manufactured by Knoll in the U.S.A. from circa 1953, the shaped seat and back formed of a sheet of latticed steel rods, supported on a white-painted tubular steel base with two pairs of legs, each pair joined by a floor stretcher, the chair was supplied with a seat pad upholstered in orange vinyl covers, the back cushion later. Patrick Gwynne had the back cushions made to match the original seat cushions, circa 1970s.
Provenance
Purchased by Patrick Gwynne, circa 1970s. The Homewood and some of its contents were given to the National Trust by Patrick Gwynne in 1999.
