Summary
A low-back 'Kingston' chair, one of a pair, British, designed by William Plunkett, 1967, the chair seat and back formed of five foam rolls glued to a plywood frame, the foam rolls upholstered in a pale grey fabric (re-upholstered 2002), the chair raised on two pairs of aluminum legs with outturned ends, each pair supported on a slightly raised bar. This pair of low-back chairs, the high-back chair (NT 864331) and stool (NT 864332) are part of the Kingston Range, designed by William Plunkett in 1967. It was designed as a flexible seating system, which later came to be known as the Plunkett Plan.
Provenance
Purchased by Patrick Gwynne in the late 1960s for The Homewood. The Homewood and some of its contents were given to the National Trust by Patrick Gwynne in 1999.
