Summary
An black lacquered free-standing double-sided bookcase, British, designed by Patrick Gwynne, third-quarter 20th century, the rear side open and with a single shelf, the front with a single shelf and with a vertical cupboard to the right hand side, the cupboard door with two hinges on the outer long side and a single knob handle on the inner long side, the bookcase raised on four square-section black-painted steel legs. This bookcase also acts as a room divider. It was designed by Patrick Gwynne to house his Encyclopedia Brittanicas but he was disappointed with its construction, considering it to be 'not well made'.
Provenance
The Homewood and some of its contents were given to the National Trust by Patrick Gwynne in 1999.
