Summary
Fan. Leaf of paper, painted with scene relating to buidling of Place Louis XV, with gilt border. Ivory sticks, carved with allegorical subjects, decorated with gold and blue. Guard inlaid mother-of-pearl and gilt, jewelled pin. Reverse with scene of soldiers. 21 sticks and 2 guard sticks. Label 'Leaf paper, allegorical historical subject. Sticks very fine ivory-work trellis, painted blue, gilt figures. Bought at Christies, given by Ld Francis Hervey'. 'The building on this fan is supposed to be the Place Louis XV (Place de la Revolution). There is a couplet referring to the statue in the background...).

Part of the Bristol Collection. Acquired by the National Trust in 1956 under the auspices of the National Land Fund, later the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
