Summary
Sampler of wool ground, and silk embroidery, mostly cross stitch. Showing alphabet and rhyme as well as a variety of motifs. By Emma Byford Aged 14. Handwritten label on back 'This sampler was worked by Mrs. Bowle, nee Emma Byford, about 1849. Mrs. Bowle died in 1911 and this sampler was purchased at the sale of her property at Rede on Jan 19th 1912, for 6 shillings.' . Framed sampler in black frame.
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. Acquired by the National Trust in 1956 under the auspices of the National Land Fund, later the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
