Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, Frederick William John Hervey 2nd Marquess of Bristol, MP (1800-1864) by William Egley (Doncaster 1798 – London 1870). 1831. Octagonal. Head and shoulders portrait of a man, turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, wearing a brown cloak, black silk neckcloth, high white collar. Pale brown eyes, black hair, fresh complexion, aged about 30. Plain drab background. Engraved on back of gold case 'Frederick William, 2nd MArquis of Bristol. Painted by W. Egley, 1831'. The miniature is sealed and unopened, and probably signed and dated on the reverse.
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. Acquired by the National Trust in 1956 under the auspices of the National Land Fund, later the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
