Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, Frederick William John Hervey 2nd Marquess of Bristol, MP (1800-1864) by Sir William Charles Ross, RA (London 1794 – London 1860). c.1840. Oval. Head and shoulders portrait of a man, turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator, wearing a black coat, voluminous black silk bow-tie, high starched collar. Blue-green eyes, black hair,,brown moustache and whiskers, pale complexion., aged about 40.
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. Acquired by the National Trust in 1956 under the auspices of the National Land Fund, later the National Heritage Memorial Fund. Probably acquired after 1908.
