Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, Lady Elizabeth Hervey, Lady Mansel (1697-1727) by Bernard Lens III (London 1681 – Knightsbridge 1740). Oval. Half-length portrait of a young woman, turned to the left, gazing at the spectator, wearing a low-cut dress with pink collar and cuffs. Hazel eyes, long dark brown hair, pale complexion with the ivory showing through. Plain dark green background. Signed lower right with gold monogram 'BL'. Engraved on back of gold case 'Lady Elizabeth Mansell, Daughter of John 1st Earl of Bristol by Bernard Lens'. This is a copy of a 3/4 length unattributed oil at Ickworth.
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. Acquired by the National Trust in 1956 under the auspices of the National Land Fund, later the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
