Summary
Watercolour on paper, Colonel Sir Felton Hervey-Bathurst, 1st Bt. CB (1782–1819) by Thomas Heaphy, London 1775 - London 1835). 1820. Full-length portrait of a man, turned to the left, gazing to the right, wearing military uniform - red coat, white trousers. Right arm missing and sleeve pinned across chest. Wearing 9 medals, red and gold sash. Left arm rests on sword in scabbard. Two plumed helmets and breastplate in bottom right hand corner. Apparently on battlefield - gun carriage with broken wheel on left.
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. Acquired by the National Trust in 1956 under the auspices of the National Land Fund, later the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
