Summary
Portrait miniature, enamel, Princess Charlotte Augusta, Princess of Wales (1796-1817) by Joseph Lee (Islington 1780 – Gravesend 1859). Oval. Head and shoulders portrait of a young woman, turned to the right wearing a yellow dress, blue ermine-lined robe, ruby brooch and three-row pearl necklace. Blue eyes, fair hair, top-knot with gold circlet. Red curtain background. Signed lower left 'Lee'. See ICK/MISC/162 for box for miniature. A variation of a portrait by Rochard in the Royal Collection, in which she wears a different coloured dress but the head is the same. Large, ornate frame topped with a crown.
Provenance
Arthur Brook and given by him to Frederick William, 1st Marquess of Bristol, as a birthday present, 2nd October 1844.
