Summary
Watercolour on paper, Eliza Horatia Frederica Seymour, Lady Stirling (1833-1896) by John Murray Drummond (1802-1889). 1847. Three-quarter-length portrait of a young woman, right elbow leaning on stone parapet. Distant view of sea beyond. Brown hair, smooth on top, centre parting, braided and caught up behind. Open neckline gown of delicate warm pinkish white. Bodice heavily ruched, long light sleeves, matching sash with centre bow. Holds posy of crimson flowers and green leaves in right hand.
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. Acquired by the National Trust in 1956 under the auspices of the National Land Fund, later the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
