Summary
Graphite on paper, Frederick William John Hervey 2nd Marquess of Bristol, PC, FSA, MP (1800-1864) by Friedrich Rehberg (Hanover 1758 – Munich 1835). 1818 Rather pensive portrait of a young man, seated , turned to the right, head turned to the left, gazing to the left, before building with tower rising in centre. Corinthian column on left behind sitter. Cravat, waistcoat, cut-away jacket and breeches. Short wispy hair growing forwards at side. Right elbow leaning on back of bench. Open book on the seat. Signed and dated 'Rome, 1818'.
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. Acquired by the National Trust in 1956 under the auspices of the National Land Fund, later the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
