Print, mezzotint, Frederick William Hervey, 5th Earl of Bristol and later 1st Marquess of Bristol (1769-1859) by Sir Thomas Lawrence PRA (Bristol 1769 – London 1830). c.1806-1811.Three-quarter-length portrait of a man, seated, facing, gazing at the spectator, legs crossed, left over right, holding a book on his knees, wearing a necktie; a peer’s robe on a table, left; background of , with small landscape beyond on left side. Restoration sticker on back 'William Biggs'.
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. Acquired by the National Trust in 1956 under the auspices of the National Land Fund, later the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
