Summary
Print, mezzotint, The Hon. Elizabeth Albana Upton, Marchioness of Bristol (1775-1844) (after Sir Francis Grant PRA (Kilgraston 1803 - Melton Mowbray 1878), by Henry Cousins (c.1809 - Dorking 1864). Three-quarter-length portrait of a middle-aged woman, gazing at the spectator, hands clasped in front, wearing an orange dress with white lace collar and cuffs; dark-greyish stole draped over arms; sapphire and pearl brooch at neck and similar small pendant hanging from chain; black lace veil over white lace frilly bonnet tied under chin, curls around forehead; background of pillars and distant landscape in shades of blue on right side.
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. Acquired by the National Trust in 1956 under the auspices of the National Land Fund, later the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
