Summary
A settee from a suite of walnut and upholstered seat furniture, English circa 1860. Comprising of a two seat settee and a pair of armchairs, with turned legs and ceramic castors with a loose cover in cream cotton printed with pink roses. The set is designed to be joined together with two settees and two chairs using the hook and nails on the underside. See May Berkouwer Reports 2010. There are pairs of holes and knobs on each to help with alignment. Upholstered with chintz with a fine green (faded to blue) scrolled pattern on a white ground, edged with blue and white cord and blue gimp braid. The settee has a fairly narrow back which slopes into armrests, and may be designed as a crinoline seat. It is upholstered with sprung seat and buttoned back.
