Summary
A mahogany, marble and ormolu mounted writing cabinet, Probably supplied by Banting France & Co. via Jean Pierre Feuillet, a Parisian interior decorator and dealer, French, circa 1820 The grey marble top above a mirrored fall enclosing a fitted interior flanked by turned columns with ormolu collars to the top and foot, the lower section with a frieze drawer and raised on conforming columns and a concave plinth base. It would seem likely that this writing cabinet was designed for bedroom use as it has a mirror to the secretaire fall, thereby doubling as a desk and dressing table.
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. The house and contents were acquired through the National Land Fund and transferred to the National Trust in 1956.
