Summary
Bronze sculpture on circular base , Mercury after Giambologna (Douai 1529 - Florence 1608). Bronze copy of statue of Mercury emerging from head of Zephyr. Mercury wears winged sandals and helm and carries caduceus with wings and twin snakes in left hand. The original type, circa 1580, but with his right index finger more vertical, pointing towards the heavens, is in the Bargello, Florence. This corresponds more closely with a model of 1564 but the inclusion of the head of Zephyr is a much later varying addition.
