Summary
Drawing and wash on paper, Colonel John Talbot Lutley (1873-1946) in uniform by Brian Hatton (Broomy Hill 1887– killed in action 1916, Egypt). 1915. Brian Hatton was born in Hereford in August 1887 and joined the Worcestershire Yeomanry at the outbreak of war. The portrait of Colonel Lutley was drawn in early 1915 when the regiment was still in Kings Lynn. Shortly after, Hatton was posted to Egypt where he was killed on Easter Sunday 1916 aged 28. The drawing shows Colonel Lutley in the uniform of the Worcester Yeomanry. He retired at the conclusion of the First World War as the commanding officer of the regiment with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. The artist, Brian Hatton also produced several other drawings of the First World War. Due to the fragile nature of the drawing, we have regrettably had to remove it from permanent display in order to protect it from further damage and deterioration. An excellent copy of the drawing is on display to the public.
