Summary
Early twentieth-century corbel figure in painted plaster, with a peasant playing bagpipe. Acts as a support for the Battlefield Cross brought back from France, where it marked the grave of Sir Thomas Colyer Fergusson's son, Riversdale Colyer-Fergusson VC, killed at the battle of Ypres on 31st July 1917. The corbel closely simulates a painted wood sculpture, even to the extent of realistic worm holes.
