Summary
Watercolour and pencil on paper,The Renaissance chimney-piece, Council Chambers, Bruges, Belgium by John Frederick Lewis, RA (London 1805 – Walton-on-Thames 1876). A pencil drawn watercolour with bodycolour of the Council Chambers in Bruges. An enormous stone firesurround in an oak panelled room with elaborate figure and heraldic carving. Card mount, bronze line borders; glazed in giltwood frame. In the centre is a sculpture of the Emperor Charles V (1500-1558) on the far left is a statue of Maria of Burgundy (d.1842), next to her on the left is her husband the Emperor Maximilian of Austria (d.1519), on the right are statues of Ferdinand of Aragon (d.1516) and his wife Isabella of Castile (d.1504). The chimneypiece was designed by Lanceloot Blondeel (1498-1581)
