Summary
Marble, The Three Magi or Greek Bishops, probably Ottoman or Ottoman Greek School, early 20th century. A relief panel carved of marble depicting either the Three Magi or three Greek bishops murdered by Ottoman troops during the Constantinople Massacre of 1821. The panel inscribed in Greek. Purchased in 1913 in a bazaar by Harold Nicholson (1886-1968) and his wife Vita Sackville-West (1892-1962) when Nicholson was working in the Diplomatic Service at Constantinople (1912-14). Now set beside the archway between the Tower Lawn and White Garden.
