Summary
A large pine kitchen table, English, circa 1870. The rounded rectangular top now with an added formica surface, the ends arched, one side with two deep drawers, each with two brass handles, the locks stamped BARRON & CO. LONDON and BY ROYAL LETTERS PATENT, standing on turned tapering legs.
Full description
The 'double acting' principle was introduced in his locks and patented by Richard Barron in 1778. It was a pivotal moment in English lock-making.
Provenance
Part of the Hussey collection. The contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 2006 by Mrs. Elizabeth Hussey.
