Caption
One a number of scrap screens which can be seen at Scotney Castle. Making home made folding screens was a popular past time for women in the mid to late 19th century. Instruction manuals were available on how to make them and pictures were then chosen with which to decorate the screen.
Summary
A large four-fold screen, European, circa 1900-1950. Each panel decorated with specimens of leaves and flowers within a painted border and silvered edges, each panel surmounted with a painted and gilt-heightened pierced crest of vine and grapes.
Provenance
Part of the Hussey collection. The contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 2006 by Mrs. Elizabeth Hussey.
