Summary
A walnut, mahogany and floral marquetry bureau, Dutch, circa 1830. Profusely inlaid overall with floral sprays in sycamore, harewood and fruitwood, the slope and the sides with oval panels decorated with huge floral bouquets issuing from vases and shells, the sloping fall enclosing a fitted interior of eight small drawers, two pigeonholes and a central cupboard, above four long graduated drawers of 'arc-en-arbelette' outline, standing on ebonised bun feet below projecting angles. ** 'Arc-en-arbelette' is the name given to the symmetrical undulating shape seen here on the drawer fronts, derived from the French for crossbow.
