Summary
An ebonised papier-mache and polychrome painted lady's work or sewing table, English, circa 1830-1850. The rectangular top with central floral bouquet within a border of gilt-heightened intricate scrolling foliage, inside is red velvet-lined and has various compartments and sewing paraphernalia, underneath hangs a pleated silk basket above the turned cross stretcher, all raised on X-frame end supports with platforms joined by a flattened stretcher and standing on bun feet, the whole decorated with small floral sprigs.
Provenance
Part of the Hussey collection. The contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 2006 by Mrs. Elizabeth Hussey.
