Summary
An ebonised, polychrome and gilt-embellished 'Chinoiserie' four-tier open bookcase, English, circa 1810. The graduated shelves each with pierced and interlaced front edge decoration and in-curved supports with red and gold blind-fret to the inside surfaces, the top shelf with three-quarter gallery, the lower shelf with Greek key frieze and scroll feet.
Provenance
Part of the Hussey collection. The contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 2006 by Mrs. Elizabeth Hussey. Introduced into the collection at Scotney by Christopher and Elizabeth Hussey in 1952, bringing it with them from Froyle, Hampshire.
