Summary
A carved walnut high-back open armchair, English, probably supplied by J.M.Willcox, circa 1843. Covered in needlework which has a repeating stylised pattern, the cresting boldly carved with plumes of foliage and scrolling ears, the frame carved with small floral rosettes, the downswept arms with scroll terminals and the seat raised on gadrooned baluster legs headed with rosettes and terminating in castors. The small floral rosettes on the front rail of this chair are similar to those which appear on the set of eighteen dining chairs supplied by J. M. Willcox. It is reasonable to suggest that this chair may also have been supplied by Willcox.
