Summary
One of a set of four walnut cane-seat chairs, probably supplied by J.M.Willcox, circa 1843. Each back with two rows of baluster arcades flanked by block and turned uprights with pointed finials, the cane seat raised on block and turned legs headed with floral rosettes and joined by a seat rail centred with an incised stylised flowerhead, the front legs with a high stretcher and a further H-stretcher below. The small floral rosettes on the front rail of this chair are similar to those which appear on the set of eighteen dining chairs supplied by J. M. Willcox. It is reasonable to suggest that this chair may also have been supplied by Willcox.
