Summary
An oak and yew library or centre table, designed by Anthony Salvin, circa 1843. The rectangular top crossbanded and inset with red leather (possibly the original), each of the long sides having three drawers between bosses, each short side applied with roundels, raised on an arcaded central support with angled and projecting pierced strapwork brackets, standing on a shaped moulded platform base with hidden castors, one drawer lock stamped PK565.
Full description
A table of similar design, though with four drawers in the friezes and an inlaid top surface, not leather-inset, was designed by Salvin for Sir Robert Newman for Mamhead in Devon but is now part of the National Trust collections at Knightshayes Court (NT 540729).
Provenance
Part of the Hussey collection. The contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 2006 by Mrs. Elizabeth Hussey.
