Summary
French carved oak armoire, 1830-40 in late 18th century style, probably from the Pays de Caux region of Upper Normandy; frieze carved with vine trails and basket of flowers, below a wide cavetto cornice with rounded corners; two doors with raised and fielded panels, arched at the top in a swept ogee with carving of vines and sheaves in the top rail, and broadly scrolled in a swept mid-rail carved with turtle doves, vines and ears of corn; extension of the closing stile carved with two lengths of ropework; long tubular brass hinges and lock plates; waved ogee apron with carved sunflower roundel in centre; brass paw feet; interior shelves missing and replaced by a brass rail.
