Bayonet (a) and sheath (b), French, Napoleon III; for a Shaftesbury rifle; blade of slight S-curve; back edged with broad fuller; inscribed along tip edge '.Imp.ale de Chateblerault, Aout 1851'; blade stamped at forte with maker's marks and number '10'; hilt stamped number '4146'; brass grip marked '38'; in black metal sheath.
