One of a pair of flintlock pistols, c1820, signed Dobson & Baker, London (Active 1819-24). Of medium quality, probably made for the Eastern market. Iron barrel formed in 2 stages, octagonal at the breech then to round to the muzzle, signed at the breech, DOBSON & BAKER, LONDON. The barrel tang engraved with stars and crescents. Retained to the stock by 2 barrel slides. Wooden ramrod with horn tip. Barrel length 28cm. Calibre 16mm. Walnut full-stock with a bulbous pommel, inlaid with silver wire. Plated silver furniture comprising; buttcap with long spurs and decorated pommel, side-plate with “stand of arms” design, escutcheon, trigger guard with acorn shaped finial, and 2 ramrod pipes. Flintlock of flat form, engraved with stars and signed DOBSON & BAKER. Sliding bolt safety catch at the tail of plate. The frizzen with an anti-friction roller. Retained to the stock by 2 side-nails. Overall length: 45.5cm
