Full description
One of a pair of cased percussion pistols by Hamburger & Co (1812-1826), Sword Cutlers & Gunmakers, 30 King’s Street, Covent Garden, London, c1826. Round iron barrel of Damascus twist construction with flattened top, the breech and barrel tang engraved and marked LONDON. Bead foresight and a raised rear sight. The breech with a pPlatinum safety vent. Retained to the stock by 1 barrel slide. Iron ramrod attached to barrel by linked stirrup. Barrel length 21cm. Calibre 18mm. Walnut full-stock with a chequered grip. Engraved iron furniture comprising trigger guard and 1 ramrod pipe. Silver escutcheon engraved with the initials RBH (Robert Hesketh). Percussion lock, foliate engraved and signed HAMBURGER & Co. Engraved dolphin hammer. Sliding bolt safety catch behind the hammer. Retained to the stock by 1 sidenail. Overall length: 33cm Case: Mahogany with brass locks (3) and handle. Size 45.5 x 24.2 x 6.6cm. The lid painted with the inscription ROBERT HESKETH ESQ – PASSENGER. The interior lined with red velvet and divided into compartments (loose), containing; retangular shaped powder flask marked Sykes, cleaning rod, pewter oil bottle marked C & J W Hawksley, nipple key and some loose percussion caps.
