Alexander, Lord Peckover was an avid collector and the Cabinet of Curiosities is testament to his many travels throughout Europe and North Africa. All of the Peckover’s were great travellers and many of their journeys are recorded in the diaries and watercolour albums we hold in our archive collection.
Summary
A letter to Miss Peckover from A.E.L. (a vicar?). No date. Paper embossed with 3 dogs. 'My dear Miss Peckover, will you please next Sunday night read the first three verses of the 14th Chapter of John and sing the hymn Safe in the Arms of Jesus. I should like you to say Miss Jane Leach has gone to one of the many mansions and is now safe in the arms of Jesus many of the people who come to the meeting will remember her and I think it would do good. My heart was so full on Sunday that I could not speak to you not because I do not love you for you know I do. When we sang the last hymn I thought I must burst out crying. I should like you my dear Miss Peckover to keep this in remembrance of me and her. goodbye with much love from A.E.L.
