Alexander, Lord Peckover was an avid collector and the Cabinet of Curiosities is testament to his many travels throughout Europe and North Africa. All of the Peckover’s were great travellers and many of their journeys are recorded in the diaries and watercolour albums we hold in our archive collection.
Summary
Ancient Egyptian red wax seal impression (made by a Peckover) affixed to inscription about it on paper. 'No.2 The scarabius represents the cartouch of .... III, or rather the .... name of that Pharoah. Below is the ...., the symbol of stability, supported by two Asps, emblem of Eternal Dominion. Over-shadowing all is the Agath ..., or winged symbol of Eternity. It may probably read Thothmis III whose dominion is stable and ever-enduring'.

Created by Alexander, Lord Peckover, in the mid 19th-century and passed down through the family. Loaned to the National Trust by the Antony Penrose Collection.
