Summary

East wall of Mrs Bunce's Room (panels, dado rail and skirting board). The walls of this room are panelled. The panelling is late 17th century in style, but was probably added to the room in the late 19th century and may have come from elsewhere in the house. The fittings in the cupboards maybe earlier. On this wall there are four wide panels that are in fact cupboard doors above and below the dado rail (included in this record). The fielded panels have simple mouldings. The top of the skirting board looks to be original to the panelling, but the flat bottom section appears to be an addition (included in this record). The four doors are hung on two hinges and have a small mortice latch, each front a cupboard where clothing was stored:In the south east cupboard there are two shelves. They are currently set at an angle, the battens suggest the shelves were originally horizontal. In the south east cupboard, adjacent to the chimneybreast, there are three domed wooden supports, possibly wig stands, on the inside of the door and four black painted metal coat hooks on a batten on the back of the cupboard. In the north east cupboard, adjacent to the chimneybreast, there are six black painted metal coat hooks on a moulded batten. In the north east cupboard, there are two narrow wooden forms, T-shaped with curved ends, 'hangers'?There were no fittings in four small cupboards below dado height. There is a central fireplace CMS 773456. There is no panelling above the mantelpiece.Parts of the historic bell pull remain in situ eg running through the top of the cupboards (CMS 774055).
