Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, Lady in Grey (called Lady Jane Paget, Countess of Galloway, 1774-1842). Half-length portrait of a young lady, turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, in a plain dark grey low-cut dress. Brown eyes, dark brown hair, aged about 20. Grey and pink stroked background. The miniature is identified in the invensoties as Lady Jane Paget, Countess of Galloway the 2nd daughter of Henry Paget, 1st Earl of Uxbridge. The lady in the portrait, aged about 20 in c.1820, is therefore unlikely to be Lady Jane. Could instead be Henry Paget 1st Marquess of Angelsey's sister, Lady Jane Stewart (nee Paget) (1774-1842) who married George Stewart 8th Earl of Galloway.
