Marble relief portrait of Lady Clementina Augusta Wellington Villiers (1824-1858) by John Graham Lough (1798-1876), in profile facing left. Marble roundel set within a rectangular wooden frame, with foliate relief decoration in spandrels, ground painted green.
Provenance
Probably commissioned by Lady Sarah Sophia Child Villiers, Countess of Jersey (1785-1867). First recorded in the 1860 inventory of 38 Berkeley Square, London, in the Dining Room: 1539: 'A medallion head of Lady Clementina Villers in marble'. Recorded in the 1871 inventory of Osterley Park, in the Dining Room: 'Marble bust of "Lady Clementina Villiers" by J.G.Lough'. Recorded in the 1915 inventory of Osterley Park in the Gallery:'1 medallion portrait of Lady Clementina Villiers in white marble'. By descent to George Child Villiers, 9th Earl of Jersey (1910-1998). Given to the National Trust in 1985 by George Child Villiers, 9th Earl of Jersey (1910-1998).
