Summary
One of a pair of bedstep night tables. In the form of three steps, each night table stands on four peg feet, which are gadrooned at the top. Panels of gilded cane enclose the front and the sides of each step. A baluster is recessed into the front corners of each of the two upper steps. The top step has a hinged lid, below which is a compartment containing a chamber pot decorated with blue flowers, on a white ground. When the middle step is drawn out a hinged flap in the top can be raised, to reveal a round, moulded lid, under which rests a white porcelain pot.
