Summary
Watercolour on paper, in black leather glazed case, lined with black velvet, framed by two green curtains decorated with flowers, Lady Sarah Frederica Child-Villiers, Princess Esterházy von Galántha (1822-1853), lying in state. Lady Sarah is lying in bed, her eyes closed. A few flowers and plants are on her cushion and pillow. Formerly described as a photograph. Lady Sarah was the first daughter of Sarah Sophia, 5th Countess of Jersey, and married February 1842 Prince Nicholas Esterhazy of Gantha, eldest son of the diplomatist Prince Paul Anthony Esterhazy. She died on 5 December 1853. Framed and housed in black velvet lined box
