Summary
Cover to an oval entree dish or vegetable dish, ironstone, decorated with the Child family coat of arms in the centre, framed with a powdered blue ground with four medallions depicting the Child family crest in reserve; ensuite with a Chinese armorial service, see also 771307 and 771442.
Full description
This part armorial service supplemented the Child family's 18th-century Chinese armorial service, and was made of a form of white stoneware known as ironstone. It was probably ordered by Sarah Sophia Child Villiers, Countess of Jersey (1785–1867), from the Staffordshire factory of Miles Mason (1752–1822). A former Oriental china retailer, Mason announced in 1804 that he ‘proposed to renew or match the impaired or broken services of the nobility and gentry'.
