Summary
Chimneypiece, Long Gallery, Mottisfont Abbey, Hampshire. Polished Carboniferous Limestone (Ashford Black Marble). Plain paneled with multi capitals to the pilasters. Hearth in three stones and set at floor level. No fender stones. Fireplace deeply set and made of fluted metal. c.1900-1905. . This was the only Chimneypiece in Mottisfont Abbey which was not introduced by Maud and Gilbert Russell during their 1930s renovations to the property.
Provenance
Commissioned for Mottisfont Abbey under the renovations of Marianne Vaudrey Barker-Mill c.1900-1905 and by descent to Peter Barker-Mill, Sold with Mottisfont Abbey to Gilbert and Maud Russell, 1934. Transferred to the National Trust with Mottisfont Abbey and Estate by Maud Russell, 1957.
