Summary
Wood, one of eight carved figures by William Silver Frith associated with Cliveden to top the newel posts on the staircase. This example shows George Hamiilton, 1st Earl of Orkney (1666-1737) and Elizabeth Villiers, Countess of Orkney (1657-1733). They occupy the first newel post on the right of the bottom to the staircase. On the plinth of each sculpture the names of the subjects and the date they began to inhabit Cliveden, in this case 1700 for both subjects.
