Summary
Wood, one of eight carved figures by William Silver Frith associated with Cliveden to top the newel posts on the staircase. This example shows George Villiers, 2nd Duke of Buckingham (1628-1687) and Anna Maria, Countess of Shrewsbury (1642-1702). They occupy the first newel post on the left of the bottom to the staircase. On the plinth of each sculpture the names of the subjects and the date they began to inhabit Cliveden, in this case 1668 for both subjects.
