Summary
Venetian glass, decorative mosaic panel on lower register of north-west wall depicting the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple and Samuel Dedicated to the Temple flanked by Prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah. The text below the upper panel depicting the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple reads 'IPSE ACCEPTIT EUM IN ULNAS SUAS ET BENEDIXIT DEUM', translating to 'Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God' – Luke Cap:2 V:28 [King James Version] Either side of the lower panel depicting the Temptation of Eve there are angels holding scrolls for 1 Samuelis CAP: 1. V24. “And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young.” – King James Version The theme of the decoration is based on a complex iconographic scheme, inspired by the 15th century Biblia Pauperum. This text used medieval theology to examine the way in which the Old Testament was fulfilled in the New Testament.
