Summary
Venetian glass, decorative mosaic panel on lower register of north-east wall depicting the Adoration of the Shepherds & The Burning Bush flanked by Saints Matthew and Mark. The text below the upper panel depicting the Adoration of the Shepherds reads, 'VERBUM CARO FACTUM EST ET HABITATVIT IN NOBIS', translating to 'And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us' – John Cap:1 V:14 [King James Version] Either side of the lower panel depicting the Burning Bush there are angels holding scrolls for Exodus CAP: 3. V:2 “And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.” – King James Version. The theme of the decoration is based on a complex iconographic scheme, inspired by the 15th century Biblia Pauperum. This text used medieval theology to examine the way in which the Old Testament was fulfilled in the New Testament.
