Summary
Venetian glass, decorative mosaic panel on lower register of the south-west wall depicting the Annunciation and the Temptation of Eve flanked by Prophets Ezechiel and Daniel. The text below the upper panel depicting the Annunciation reads 'ECCE ANCILLA DOMINI FIAT MIHI SECUNDUM VERBUM TUUM', translating to 'Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.’ – Luke Cap: 1 V:38 [King James Version Either side of the lower panel depicting the Temptation of Eve there are angels holding scrolls for Genesis Cap 3, V:1, “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” – King James Version. The theme of the decoration is based on a complex iconographic scheme, inspired by the 15th century Biblia Pauperum. This text used medieval theology to examine the way in which the Old Testament was fulfilled in the New Testament.
