Marble sculpture, Mercury about to Kill Argus by Bertel Thorvaldsen (Gronnegade 1770 – Copenhagen 1844), c. 1818. White marble on limestone pedestal. Half seated on a drapery covered stump, he turns to his left, his left leg behind him, his right slung over the stump and hanging against the sheath from which he pulls his sword. Left hand taken across his body and holds his pipes. wears winged hat. Base convex curved back and front.
